I was dead set against the frivolity of having flowers at my father’s funeral. He detested frivolous things of any kind. But I must say that your flowers my wife chose for the funeral did add a certain amount of warmth to the service. I don’t know if I can explain it any better than that. I thought I’d give you an idea. I paired the broken heart roses with a few of the hope and honor crosses. They both have the same visual theme of the red crossing through the white field, but the two of them together at the funeral said just the right thing without having to use any words. My father died after a long bout with cancer. I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to make any sort of arrangements, so my husband did most of them. Looking back, I could see that he was upset also, and he’s not exactly the arbiter of taste that he thinks he is when he’s in the right frame of mind.
