The flowers I sent to my mother arrived, and I was told they were quite amazing. Apparently much better than the flowers that my holier-than-thou brother sent to her (her words). I don't resent in the fact that my mother likes him better than me, but it does make it easier to feel really good that I outdid him. The first time I ever received roses, I was still in high school. It was exciting and frightening all at the same time to get them from a boy. My status as a second daughter in my family means that I am usually the left out one. I’m forced into the kitchen with my mother and aunties even though I have no idea how to cook.
