Not everyone could attend my graduation from college, but many of them sent their regards. Like my uncle Roland, who I had not seen in many years. He sent some of your flowers to me, and I was very touched. One thing I wondered was why the flowers he sent looked so much more impressive than the flowers of other places. I had screwed up every anniversary gift since we were married. Last year, I got my wife what she asked for... in the wrong size. That was a disaster. I thought flowers would be the safe choice this year. You know, nothing ostentatious or gaudy, just something small to say how much I appreciated being married to this wonderful woman. I'm very appreciative that your phone operator took the time to help me choose a bouquet. I didn't think it would get much of a reaction other than not letting me screw up another gift. But I got the warmest reception from a present that I ever got from her. I'd like to think that I was making my daughter happy when I sent flowers to her on her first day at college, but I really suspected that she was embarrassed by her mother in front of her dorm-mates. It was a little of both, I guess. I've been giving my girlfriend chocolate for the past three years for Valentine's Day. Now she's on a low-carb diet, and I'm not sure how I can give her candy when she's not supposed to be eating it. Of course, she didn't say anything about it. The best present I thought I could give her was flowers. It's true. The flowers went over better than the candy. Is there a better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than with flowers? It's the quintessential red roses day, and I send them out to my girlfriend every year. Sadly it is not the same girlfriend every year, but maybe if I start to remember their birthdays it would make it easier. Valentine's Day is much easier to remember. It's always on the same day.
