I don’t know if you know how hard it is to find a consistently good florist. Back in the 1980s, there was a flower delivery service associated with a department store that has since been swallowed up by a larger company. Sometimes it seems like my children have all left me for their better lives in other places. At least they find time to let me know they are doing OK. My status as a second daughter in my family means that I am usually the left out one. I’m forced into the kitchen with my mother and aunties even though I have no idea how to cook. I was in the USA recently, and I discovered the tradition of Thanksgiving. It's such a wonderful time to take the summer and autumn harvest and put it to good use for family that visits. I was interested to see how my American friends celebrated, and from what I understand, there is a turkey and potatoes and that's about what the similarities are between families. I like the idea of having a major holiday before Christmas that kind of celebrates autumn and all its colors. I was also impressed with the flowers. I understand that not everyone includes flowers as part of the holiday, but if my friends are any indication, everyone should have flowers.
