I've always been ambivalent about Valentine's Day, mostly because nothing ever happened. It's only recently that I've been in a serious relationship that has lasted through Valentine's Day, so maybe that has something to do with it. In any event, this last Valentine's, I was actually in a relationship, so I wondered what would happen. Societal attitudes, I guess. I got her some candy, and she got me some flowers. But not just any flowers. They were these eye-popping spring flowers with full fragrance and very pretty. Of course, they were your flowers, which is why I'm writing to you. My wife gave me the third degree about sending her flowers "just because." Being a woman, she immediately suspected that I was having an affair. When I asked her why she would possibly suspect that, she answered that those flowers were 100 times nicer than anything else I've ever given her. So what's up with that, people? I was dead set against the frivolity of having flowers at my father’s funeral. He detested frivolous things of any kind. But I must say that your flowers my wife chose for the funeral did add a certain amount of warmth to the service. I don’t know if I can explain it any better than that.
