Is there a worse holiday to miss than Mother's Day? I sailed right over it last year, and I suddenly noticed a palpable sheet of ice in my mother's voice over the phone ever since then. That is, until this year's Mother's Day, when I managed to skiff over to your website and order the most impressive thing I could find (which wasn't easy, because there's a lot of impressive stuff). I visited my father in the hospital this morning and was stunned to see that my flowers had arrived before I had. I know I had asked them to be delivered in the early morning, but really! He was already enjoying them, saying they reminded him of my mother and when I was a baby. We both had a good cry. Though I am far away from my friends, it's nice to know that I can let them know I am thinking about them in a time of sadness and loss. Flowers are so much more tactile and have more substance than cards or electronic messages, like they are stand-ins for you. It's something they can move around and focus on in order to get the kind of feeling that I hope I would provide were I there. I'm glad that you can help me express my sympathy for the family in this way and that I can do it much more easily than if I were to go there myself. I have a story I want to tell you. I met my husband when we were both on separate trips through Italy. We had a whirlwind romance for about two weeks, and it was the best time in my life. This was thirty years ago. I hadn’t seen him in all that time. Well, about a month ago, I get a gift of flowers from him. Your flowers. And I realized that day was the anniversary of when we met all those years ago. He had been trying to find me all this time. We were both divorced, and we had another whirlwind romance.
