Is there some kind of large population of patient souls where you get your customer service people from? Do they also babysit for a trio of tiny terrors (ages: 3, 6, & 8)? I must have been on the phone with this person (I forget her name, sorry!) for at least a half an hour trying to order a simple flower arrangement and I have to chase around my terrors (I mean: lovely children) at the same time. How come I order from you for all my friends and family, but they all order from some schmo who can’t get it right? I tell them many many times, drop as many hints as I can, but no one listens to me and I have to suffer for it. Sheesh. The worst part of ordering flowers online is the sinking feeling you get that nothing is going to be delivered as you want it to be. This is true for all gifts ordered online, I think. As a society, we tend to send flowers out of feelings of guilt for not being in a place we would normally be. Before the advent of automobiles and airplanes, we wouldn't stray too far from home (except in a few cases), and so we didn't have a need for sending gifts through the mail, or the Internet, or using FTD, or some other wire service. But we are products of our times, and because even nuclear families are so far flung, and because husbands and wives often live and work on different continents from one another, we have this need to send gifts to one anther in lieu of being there. What we're acknowledging is that we usually do what we can to make compromises between how we would like to live and how we would like to be close to one another. It's apparently socially acceptable to be apart like this as long as we can send each other things that remind us of this emotional connection even though there's no physical connection. I’m not one to take credit for the efforts of others, but I’ll admit to a little cheating. When people ask where I got those magnificent arrangements of flowers, I tell them that I did them myself.
