I'd like to think that I was making my daughter happy when I sent flowers to her on her first day at college, but I really suspected that she was embarrassed by her mother in front of her dorm-mates. Not everyone could attend my graduation from college, but many of them sent their regards. Like my uncle Roland, who I had not seen in many years.
