My daughter had a piano recital while I was on a business trip in Florida. It nearly killed me that I couldn’t be there. For anyone who has a girlfriend in another part of the country, I have three little words of advice: FTD. It doesn't matter if there's a problem in the relationship, if someone's angry with someone else, if someone misses someone else, or if there's something else going on. Flowers will fix it. I’ve ordered white long-stemmed roses every year for my mom & dad’s anniversary. This year was their 40th, so I decided to do something extra & different. My father died after a long bout with cancer. I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to make any sort of arrangements, so my husband did most of them. Looking back, I could see that he was upset also, and he’s not exactly the arbiter of taste that he thinks he is when he’s in the right frame of mind. So when the flowers arrived for the funeral, I was struck by how understated and tasteful they were, entirely appropriate for the occasion.
