I wanted to tell you that the orchids I sent my mother in the hospital really lifted her spirits. She was thrilled to see them because she has orchids at home that she hasn't seen in almost a month. They couldn't be moved, but I wanted to give her something that reminded her of home. They were delivered in the morning, and I was able to visit her in the early evening. This may sound a little silly, but I hope it doesn't. My best friend's cat died over the weekend, and I couldn't think of anything to do for her being so far away with work and all. The best thing I could think of was to send a nice sympathy bouquet. I know how close she was to that cat, and I didn't really know how to say that in words. So I let the flowers do the talking, just to let her know that I was there for her. She did eventually share her feelings with me, and I'm glad I could help. Mother's Day is one of those days where it seems I have too many mothers. Too many times, I've found myself sitting at home on the computer instead of outside enjoying the landscape and the people. I've found that if I think about the people in my life back in the US that I want to keep in my life, I have more ability to meet new people and experience new things. That's the whole reason why I took this job, was to experience a different culture. This is a strange story, I know, but I had to get flowers not just to an address, but to a specific location within that address. Worst of all, it wasn't marked anywhere. My cousin is a stand-up comedian, and the flowers for him were for his first steady gig in L.A. They had to be right off-stage behind the curtain so as he came off, the flowers would be presented to him in his hands. My God, I can't believe they were there at just the right time. I was nervous as a cockroach at a tap-dance contest, but everything worked out OK.
